INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTs) INTEGRATION STATUS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS CURRICULUM IN NIGERIA Article Full-text available Oct 2011 Michael Ushie Ashang Abstract. This research is aimed at investigating Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) integration Status in Secondary Schools curriculum in Nigeria. One research question and hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The target population for this study was 2,231 respondents comprising 2,021 Secondary School Teachers and 210 School Principals. A total of 202 secondary school teachers and 21 School Principals were selected using simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit the needed information from the teachers and Principals. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research question and independent t-test statistical tool to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance and 221 degree of freedom. From the analyses, it was discovered that the Federal Government of Nigeria recognizes the prominent role of ICTs in the modern world and has integrated ICTs into Secondary Schools curriculum through the inclusion of Computer Science for secondary education; the projects of the Federal Government of Nigerias attempts to integrate ICTs into secondary schools curriculum has not really taken off beyond the distribution and installation of school computers (chalkboard teaching and textbook in computer has continued to dominate classroom activities in Nigerian secondary schools. Based on the findings, it was recommended that ICTs application and use in secondary schools should be intensively prioritized. View Show abstract Educational information systems: Problems of the small educational organisation Article Dec 1992 AUSTRALAS J EDUC TEC John Hedberg Barry Harper Deborah Bloch This paper describes the issues surrounding the provision of information systems to small educational organisations, in particular, the concerns which need to be considered when generating a comprehensive strategy for the implementation of an educational integrated information system. The paper reviews both information systems strategy research and innovations in educational technology, and reports on two studies of the problems in information systems strategy of educational professionals. In the major study, survey responses from 432 high schools were analysed to examine the relative use of microcomputer school information systems for efficiency of routine functions versus effective decision-making defined as greater use of information by school personnel. Schools showed significantly greater use of the systems for more efficient processing of routine tasks. However, operational factors related to the use of the systems as informing tools for more effective decision-making were able to be singled out, and relationships among measures of efficiency, effectiveness, decision-making and operational factors were identified. The article concludes with implications for institutional practice, related research and professional preparation of educational administrators. Accountability, instructional evaluation, supervision, feedback, frequency of meetings, and shared decision making were found to be significantly affected. A chain reaction of hierarchically oriented tightening was observed: the principal, and school computer administrator on her behalf, over department heads, and department heads over their teachers.
